The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) is Thailand’s major industrial hub and a key focus area for implementing the government’s Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) policy, which aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. While efforts to address the carbon footprints of organizations and products in Thailand’s industrial sector have been increasing, participation remains limited to large-scale industries with the expertise and resources. Additionally, these efforts are often spreadsheet-based, limiting the government’s ability to integrate and analyze data for broader application.
This project aims to develop a carbon footprint data management system for organizations, ensuring data quality, transparency, and integrity for alignment and integration with international systems. The system will enable data analysis to assess an enterprise’s potential in greenhouse gas emissions management. The project targets the implementation of this system in 200 factories within the EEC. In additon, the project seeks to enhance workforce capacity by reskilling or upskilling 500 professionals to support the net-zero emissions goal. It will also promote research and innovation in low-carbon solutions and hydrogen technology, facilitating the low-carbon transition of industries in the EEC. The focus will be on energy- and carbon-intensive sectors, industries vulnerable to the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), and BCG-focused industries such as petroleum and petrochemical, renewable energy, steel, aluminum, and export-oriented food production.
The project is implemented in collaboration with the Sustainable Manufacturing Center (SMC) located in the Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation (EECi).
