The 9th International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Environment (SEE 2024) took place from 18 to 20 December 2024 at the Millennium Hilton Bangkok, Thailand. Organized by the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE) at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), in collaboration with its consortium partners – King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, Chiang Mai University, Prince of Songkla University, and Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology at Thammasat University – and Kyoto University, the event was supported by key organizations, including Hub Net Zero.

Under the theme “Securing a Sustainable Net-Zero Future Now,” the conference explored a diverse range of topics, including Advanced energy and power systems, Bioenergy, biofuels and biorefinery, Circular economy and sustainability, Decarbonisation of end-use sectors, Environmental and climate science, technology, and management, Future climate technologies and innovation, and Green governance and policy.

The opening session featured remarks from Prof. Navadol Laosiripojana and Prof. Hideaki Ohgaki, co-chairs of the organizing committee, and a warm welcome by international advisory committee co-charis Dr. Suvit Tia and Prof. Keiichi Ishihara. The panel discussion titled Green Skills for Net Zero Carbon Economy and 2030 UN SDGs brought together local and international speakers from the public and private sectors to share their perspectives on the future skilsets to support a low carbon economy and the UN SDGs. A special session on plastic waste saw experts from Thailand and Japan presenting strategies for plastic waste management, recycling and recovery. Another special session focused on using life cycle approaches to achieve carbon neutrality and sustainability, while a dedicated session on climate change mitigation explored soil carbon sequestration in Thailand. The 10th JASTIP-WP2 Annual Workshop showcased findings from joint research projects in energy and environment (Work Package 2) conducted under the Japan-ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Platform (JASTIP). Notably, JASTIP has been funded by the Strategic International Collaborative Research Program (SICORP) of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and was launched by Kyoto University in 2015.
