Hub Net Zero Co-hosts JGSEE Talk on Safe and Sustainable by Design

On 7 July 2025, Hub Net Zero, in collaboration with the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE) of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), organized a JGSEE Talk titled “Safe and Sustainable by Design and the Role of Industrial Ecology.” The event took place at KMUTT Bangmod Campus and was also available for online participation.

The event featured a presentation by Prof. Jeroen Guinée, a renowned expert in environmental sciences from Leiden University’s Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML), Netherlands. Prof. Guinée, whose work has significantly advanced the field of life cycle assessment (LCA), shared insights on safe and sustainable by design (SSbD) — a framework that integrates safety and sustainability considerations into the development of products and technologies.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Shabbir H. Gheewala of KMUTT warmly welcomed participants and introduced Prof. Guinée, highlighting his long-standing contributions to environmental assessment methodologies, including his role as project leader and editor of the seminal “Handbook on Life Cycle Assessment: Operational Guide to the ISO Standards.”

The session drew interest from the academic and research communities. It provided valuable perspectives on the SSbD concept and its importance in integrating safety and sustainability considerations early in the research, innovation, and design phases of material and product development.

This activity forms part of Hub Net Zero’s ongoing knowledge-sharing initiatives, aimed at fostering dialogue and collaboration on low-carbon innovation and sustainable development.
