The 21st Renewable Energy Asia Conference 2025 Highlights Digital Solutions for a Low-Carbon Future

The 21st Renewable Energy Asia Conference 2025 (REA 2025) took place on 2 July 2025 at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok, as part of Asia Sustainable Energy Week (ASEW). The event was organized by the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE) at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) and Informa Markets, with support from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Thailand Science Research Innovation (TSRI), Hub Net Zero, and the Mobility and Vehicles Technology Research Center (MOVE) at KMUTT. This year’s conference was convened under the theme “Leveraging Digital Solutions for a Sustainable, Low-Carbon Future”.

The conference brought together policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and energy experts, to explore how digital tools can and enable smarter energy systems and accelerate decarbonization efforts.

The morning plenary session, chaired by Prof. Dr. Navadol Laosiripojana, Director of JGSEE, KMUTT, featured five high-level presentations. Highlights included insights on the deployment of small modular reactors (SMRs) in Southeast Asia by Dr. Wison Luangdilok (H2Technology LLC, USA), the role of AI and digitalization in the energy sector by Mr. Patipan Kalvibool (Huawei Technology Thailand), an update on Thailand’s Smart Grid Plan by Mr. Sarat Prakobchat (Energy Policy and Planning Office), and Finland’s carbon-free vision presented by Her Excellency Kristiina Kuvaja-Xanthopoulos, Ambassador of Finland to Thailand.

In the afternoon, the conference hosted five concurrent sessions, featuring 26 presentations covering key topics such as hydrogen; sustainable fuels; carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS); clean electricity transition; industrial decarbonization, transport decarbonization; and green buildings.

REA 2025 underscored the role of regional collaboration and digital innovation as vital drivers of a smarter, greener, and more connected energy future for Asia.
