Dialogue on Food Security and Safety in the Climate Change Era

Prof. Dr. Navadol Laosiripojana, Director of JGSEE at KMUTT and Manager of Hub Net Zero, participated in the forum “Integrating Food Security and Safety Policies in the Era of Climate Change,” organized by the Thai Academy of Science and Technology (TAST) on 20 November 2025 in Bangkok. The forum was officially opened by TAST President, Dr. Kanyawim Kirtikara.

The session brought together a panel of experts including Mr. Sridhar Dharmapuri, Senior Food Safety and Nutrition Officer at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO); Mr. Khaled Mashfiq, Specialist and Regional Liaison at the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT); Mr. Visit Limlurcha, Vice Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Processed Food & Future Food Committee; and Dr. Nana Kuenkel, Agriculture and Food Cluster Director at GIZ Thailand; and was moderated by Dr. Vanida Khumnirdpetch. Together, they examined how climate change is reshaping risks across food production systems, influencing both food security and safety.

Speakers emphasized that although Asia remains a major global food producer, the region still faces high malnutrition rates, making nutrition security as critical as productivity. They highlighted that Thailand and ASEAN are moving toward harmonized standards, innovation, and climate-smart practices, though fragmented policy implementation continues to pose challenges. Throughout the discussion, the importance of strong collaboration among policymakers, researchers, and the private sector was underscored, along with the need for reliable and standardized data to support decision-making, risk assessment, and monitoring of system vulnerabilities. Innovation in food safety and waste management was identified as a key opportunity to increase profitability, improve environmental outcomes, and build more resilient food systems.

Hub Net Zero’s participation reflects its commitment to advancing science-informed policy solutions that support sustainable and climate-resilient development across Thailand and the wider ASEAN region.
