Hub Net Zero Expert Recognized for Research Excellence by KMUTT

Prof. Shabbir H. Gheewala, a leading expert from Hub Net Zero, was among 53 recipients recognized for outstanding contributions to research and innovation at an awards ceremony hosted by King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT). The event, held on 23 July 2025 at Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok, was attended by KMUTT leadership including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suvit Saetia, President of KMUTT, and Prof. Emeritus Dr. Yongyuth Yuthavong, Chairman of the University Council, who extended their congratulations to the honorees.

The ceremony celebrated KMUTT faculty, researchers and staff who have brought distinction to the university through high-quality academic and research achievements over the past year.

 

Prof. Shabbir H. Gheewala leads the Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment Lab at the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE), KMUTT. A global authority in sustainability science, Prof. Gheewala specializes in life cycle assessment of agricultural and energy systems, including biofuels and the carbon and water footprinting of products. With more than 300 peer-reviewed publications and a predicted h-index of 71, he is ranked among the world’s top 1% most-cited researchers in earth and environmental sciences. In 2021, he was listed in Reuters’ Hot List of the top 1,000 most influential climate scientists. According to ScholarGPS 2024, he ranks 17th globally in the field of cleaner production and 100th in sustainability in the Highly Ranked Scholar – Lifetime category. Most recently, he was recognized as Thailand’s National Champion for the Frontiers Planet Prize for his study applying planetary boundary-based life cycle assessment to rice production in Pakistan.
