On 22 April 2026, key members of Hub Net Zero participated in a strategic meeting hosted by the Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT). The meeting convened stakeholders from academia, industry, and government to advance preparations for establishing the “Hub of Talents for Nuclear Energy Technology” in Thailand.
Participating organizations included the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), Chulalongkorn University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, the Ministry of Commerce, the Senate Standing Committee on Energy, and the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP).
In addition, the private sector was strongly represented, including major corporations such as WHA Utilities and Power Public Company Limited (WHA UP), Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited (GPSC), ALTERVIM, and the Cambridge Group.
The meeting marked an important step toward strengthening Thailand’s capabilities in nuclear technology – particularly small modular reactors (SMRs) – in suppor of the country’s long-term clean energy and net-zero ambitions. Discussions focused on advancing five core areas:
1. Establishing an expert database to build a talent pool for nuclear energy and SMR development;
2. Developing collaboration frameworks, including MOUs and consortia, to enhance both domestic and international partnerships;
3. Bridging research and industry, with an emphasis on capacity building for technicians and technical personnel;
4. Organizing public engagement activities and roadshows to strengthen awareness, understanding, and trust in nuclear technologies; and
5. Developing short- and long-term training programs to support emerging nuclear energy technologies.
During the session on workforce development, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pipat Chaiwiwatworakul of the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment, KMUTT (JGSEE-KMUTT), and a member of Hub Net Zero, highlighted the recent establishment of a consortium focused on energy transition workforce skills. The consortium brings together key institutions, including H2Technology, OAP, TINT, ENTEC, Chulalongkorn University, and KMUTT, and is currently developing an advanced training program covering SMRs, clean heat, and hydrogen technologies, with an expected launch in August 2026.
Several key experts involved in this workforce development initiative were also present at the meeting. These included Assist. Prof. Dr. Piyatida Trinuruk Kaewchinda (KMUTT), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somboon Rassame, Head of the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Chulalongkorn University, Dr. Kampanart Silva (ENTEC), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bundit Fungtammasan, Advisor to the President of KMUTT, and Prof. Dr. Navadol Laosiripojana (JGSEE).
Hub Net Zero and the “Hub of Talents for Nuclear Energy Technology” are expected to work in close synergy to strengthen Thailand’s human capital and accelerate the country’s transition toward a sustainable, low-carbon energy future.
